Harlan Dean "Hank" Edgar, age 79, of Crawfordsville, Iowa, died Saturday, June 16, 2012, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a lengthy illness.

Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 20th at the United Church of Crawfordsville with Rev. Nancy Oehler-Love and Larry Fletcher officiating. Visitation will begin noon Tuesday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 Tuesday evening. Interment will take place at the Crawfordsville Cemetery. Memorials have been established for the United Church of Crawfordsville, the Crawfordsville First Responders or Iowa City Hospice. Hank was born June 10, 1933 in Crawfordsville, Iowa the son of William Harlan and Mary Alice (Hotle) Edgar. He graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1952. On September 30, 1958, he was united in marriage to Mary Lou Buck in Crawfordsville, Iowa.

Hank lived most of his life in Crawfordsville, Iowa. He drove truck and farmed in the Crawfordsville area for many years. He worked at Planks in Columbus Junction until his retirement. Hank was a member of the United Church of Crawfordsville. He enjoyed fishing, dancing, camping, woodworking, gardening and visiting with friends and family. Hank enjoyed working on and restoring antique tractors and attending Old Threshers in Mt. Pleasant.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Edgar of Crawfordsville, Iowa; daughter, Catherine Schafer and husband Scott of Keosauqua, Iowa; son, William H. "Bill" Edgar and wife Sheri of Crawfordsville, Iowa; four grandchildren, Mandy Farrier and Matt Flynn of Brighton, Iowa; Megan Edgar of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Mitchell Edgar and Molly Edgar of Crawfordsville, Iowa; brother, Jim Edgar and wife Noy of Crawfordsville, Iowa; sister, Pat Jenkins and husband Kermit of Washington, Iowa; sister, Nancy Wombacher and husband Ray of Iowa City, Iowa; sister, Ellen Waggoner of Washington, Iowa; brother-in-law, Clifford Wheaton of Crawfordsville, Iowa; and sister-in-law, Mary Edgar of Amsterdam, Missouri.

Hank was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Sam Edgar, and one sister, Linda Wheaton.
