Gretta L. Embree, age 83, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.

A visitation to celebrate Gretta's life will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington, Iowa. Interment will take place at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at the Rock Creek Cemetery in rural Grinnell, Iowa. Gretta was born December 13, 1940, in Grinnell, Iowa, the daughter of Shirley and Dorothy (Elliott) Sisco. Gretta attended school in Grinnell and graduated from Grinnell High School. She was united in marriage to Max Embree on December 30, 1982, in Grinnell.

Gretta worked as a Management Support Secretary for GTE Phone Company in Grinnell for many years retiring in 2007. Following her retirement, Gretta and Max moved to Washington, Iowa. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church where she participated in Women's Bible Study. She was a member of the Red Hats, and the Silver Sneakers Exercise Group. Gretta enjoyed participating in water aerobics and she loved to do arts and crafts projects including, ceramics, scrapbooking and card making. Gretta was a lover of animals.

She is survived by her husband, Max Embree of Washington, Iowa; son, Rick (Debi) Green of Waxahachie, Texas; son, Del Green of Springfield, Missouri; daughter, Denise Green of Lake Ozark, Missouri; step daughter, Lisa (Tim) Pontier of Prole, Iowa; step daughter, Susan (Scott) German of Grinnell, Iowa; step son, Mark (Julie) Embree of Washington, Iowa; step daughter, Gina (Chad) Beck of Grinnell, Iowa; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Hollis Sisco of Grinnell, Iowa.

Gretta was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother.
