Greta Gaye Wells, 81, of Washington, IA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 13th, 2023, at her home while being cared for by her family.

Celebration of life services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 22nd, 2023,at the Jones Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Anthony DeVaughn officiating. The family requests that everyone attending the service wear their favorite Iowa Hawkeye attire. Family will be present to receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, IA. In lieu of flowers, Greta's family requests that donations be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Greta was born on August 30th, 1941, in Washington, IA, the daughter of Curtis & Laurene (Dircks) Wells. She graduated from Washington High School in 1959. After high school, Greta attended UNI for one year then attended Burlington School of Nursing.

A life-long resident of Washington, Greta was a registered nurse & Director of Nursing for over 50 years. Greta was an avid golfer, winning the Washington Golf & Country Club Women's Championship in 1981, 1987 & 1988. She was a loyal Iowa Hawkeyes & Chicago Bears fan. She loved the holidays, especially Halloween, often making her own costumes & enjoyed sharing her holiday decor with the trick-or-treaters. Some of her favorite things included traveling, trips to various casinos, Diet Pepsi, Sterzings, Peanut M&Ms & spending time with her family.

She is survived by her sister & brother-in-law, Rebecca & Wayne Kaufman of Washington, IA; sister-in-law, Avis Wells-Smith of Coralville, Iowa; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great nieces & great-great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister & brother-in-law, Julie & Don Hanson; sister & brother-in-law, Kirtene & Frank Bruty & brother James "Butch" Wells.
