Grace A. Egli, age 92, of Washington, Iowa, died Thursday, November 11, 2021, at Halcyon House in Washington.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday, November 15, 2021, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Craig Peters officiating. The family will be present to receive friends from 1:00 until 1:30 Monday afternoon. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. Grace was born May 18th, 1929, in Oak Park, Illinois, the daughter of George David and Grace Nellie (Smith) Brown. She grew up in Cicero, Illinois, and graduated from J. Sterling Morton High School in 1947. During high school, Grace attended Youth For Christ and High School Crusaders activities with her friends. She attended the three year Presbyterian School of Nursing and graduated in 1950. Grace married the love of her life, John O. Egli on July 7, 1950, at the West Side Reformed Church in Cicero.
Grace spent most of her married life in Maquoketa, Iowa, where she attended the First Baptist Church. She sang in the church choir, performed with small groups, and played the organ when needed. She worked at the local hospital for several years. Grace enjoyed oil painting, playing the piano, working on the computer, doing puzzles and visiting with friends. Grace loved animals, especially her cat, and her biggest thrill was riding an elephant.
She is survived by daughter, Cathy Jeanne Schroeder and husband Jerry of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; daughter, Jeanine Ann Schromen of Dubuque, Iowa;daughter-in-law, Jeri Egli of Washington, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and sister, Dorothy Brown Egli Davidson of Tampa, Florida.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sons, Richard, John and Paul; and one brother, George Albert Brown.
