Obituary

Glenn Albert Ellis, age 99, of Washington, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, Iowa, died Sunday, July 27, 2014, at Halcyon House in Washington, following a decline in health.

Memorial services will be held 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 6th, at the Day Lounge of Halcyon House. Funeral services and burial will take place at a later date in Sioux City, Iowa. Memorials have been established for Lions Club Projects or Morningside Presbyterian Church in Sioux City, Iowa. The Jones & Eden Funeral Home is assisting the family with local arrangements. Glenn was born April 4, 1915, in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada, the son of James Thomas and Ruby Marr (Keeler) Ellis. He graduated from high school in Wayzata, Minnesota, and attended Northwestern Bible College. Glenn was united in marriage to Marjorie Heath on June 16, 1940, in Sioux City, Iowa. He served honorably in the United States Navy in the Construction Battalion (SeaBees) from 1943 until 1945.

Glenn lived most of his life in Sioux City before moving to Washington, Iowa, in 2007. He worked for the Western Weighing and Inspection Bureau until his retirement in 1977. During his employment with Western Weighing he resided in Minneapolis, St. Paul, Ft. Dodge, Davenport and Sioux City. He was an active member of Morningside Presbyterian Church since 1949 and was an Elder of the church. Glenn was a member of Lions Club International since 1957 and receive the Warren Coleman Award. He was very artistic and enjoyed painting, watercolors and working with acrylics. He was a member of the Rock and Mineral Club and enjoyed woodworking and wood carving. Glenn loved traveling and wintered in the Rio Grande Valley for more than twenty five years. He was President of the American Field Service Foreign Exchange Program and enjoyed hosting foreign exchange students. He and Marjorie enjoyed square dancing and spending time with their church friends and family.

He is survived by one daughter, Virginia Bordwell and husband Richard of Washington, Iowa; two granddaughters, Marilyn DeLaure and husband Max of Fairfax, California; and Stephanie Quackenbush and husband Peter of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; four great grandchildren and one brother, Kendall "Mike" Ellis of Wayzata, Minnesota.

Glenn was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Marjorie in 2011; daughter, Nancy in 1996; two brothers, Arthur and Tommy Ellis; and one sister, Marilyn Ellis.
