Glenda K. Schowalter, age 70, of Harvey, Illinois, died Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey, Illinois after a long illness.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 29, 2012 at the North Hill Cemetery near Wayland, Iowa. A general memorial has been established. Online condolences may be sent for Glenda's family through the web at

Glenda was born January 31, 1942 in Harvey, Illinois, the daughter of Glenn and Mona (Beam) Schowalter. She graduated from Thornton High School.
Glenda had been a lifelong resident of Harvey, Illinois. She was employed by Thornton High School District 205 for forty-six years as a school registrar and an administrative assistant. Glenda had a fondness for cats and considered them an important part of her family. She enjoyed playing the dulcimer and singing folk music. She was a board member of the Gebhard Woods Dulcimer and Traditional Music Festival. She also served as a board member and newsletter editor for the South Suburban Dulcimer and Folk Music Society.
Among relatives in the area, Glenda is survived by cousins Patricia Dusenbery, Ted Griffith, Clement Griffith, Ada Kleese, Ed Kleese, Sr., Joyce Nebel, and Harriett Rustan, all of Washington, Iowa, and Wilma Wright, of Keota, Iowa. She is also survived by many extended family members across the United States, as well as many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Glenn and Mona (Beam) Schowalter of Harvey, Illinois, and her grandparents Pete and Grace (Kleese) Schowalter of Wayland, Iowa.
