G. Gifford Morrison, age 94, of Washington, Iowa, died Wednesday, December 4, 2013, at his residence in Washington following lengthy illness.
Celebration of life services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 9, 2013, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Fr. Troy Richmond officiating. Visitation will begin noon Monday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. Interment with military honors conducted by American Legion Post 29 will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. George Gifford Morrison was born April 5, 1919, in Washington, Iowa, the son of George F. and Cornelia (Gifford) Morrison. He attended school in Washington, Iowa, graduating from Washington High School in 1937. He received his B.A. and Juris Doctorate Degrees from the University of Iowa. Gifford served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was united in marriage to Sara Lu Miller on December 6, 1947, in Washington, Iowa. .
Gifford was an attorney in Washington from 1946 until 2009. He was proud to be Trustee of the Brinton Trust, giving financially to many local charitable organizations. Gifford was very involved with his community. He was a member of the VFW, and American Legion. He was involved with the Boy Scouts, DeMolay, Beta Theta Pi fraternity and the Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity at the University of Iowa. He was a member of Washington Masonic Lodge #26 , KAABA Shrine and the National Rifle Association. He was a Charter and 60 year member of Washington Noon Kiwanis and was active in the YMCA where he was President of the Board for many years. He served as Washington County Attorney for ten years and was a member of the Iowa Trial Lawyers Association.
Gifford is survived by his wife, Sara L. Morrison of Washington, Iowa; son, Peter G. Morrison of Washington, Iowa; son, Patrick H. Morrison and wife Teresa of Cedarburg, Wisconsin; daughter, Mary F. Stokke and husband Jim of Washington, Iowa; three grandchildren: Eric Christopher John Koenen and wife Shiovahn of Polo, Illinois; Ian Patrick Morrison of Arkansas; Tyler Charles Morrison of Maine; two great grandchildren, Spencer Christopher Koenen and Ella Marie Koenen; and one brother, Don Morrison and wife Phyllis of Davenport, Iowa.
Gifford was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother – Ira F. Morrison.
