Gertrude was born September 19, 1918, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Franz Christian and Anna (Barkhous) Landau. She was united in marriage to Willis Jones on October 5, 1940, at St. Paul's Church in Washington, Iowa.

Gertrude and her husband, Willis, owned and operated the Jones Funeral Home from 1968-1979. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Washington since 1941. The dome on top of the United Methodist Church was donated by the Jones family. At the conclusion of WWII, two Jones in-laws and two embalmers used the lighted dome to bring them home safely. She was a 50-year member of the Daughters of The Nile and a lifetime member of the WWII Memorial and the Ellis Island Foundation.

She is survived by her son, Louie Jones of David, Panama; great-nephew, Larry Fishback and wife Brenda; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willis in 1995; infant son, David; siblings: Carl, Raymond, Frances, Marie and Mabel Landau, Alma Caldwell, Edna McKinney and Minnie Quasdorf; niece, Jean Gratten; and nephew, Bill Caldwell.
