Gertrude "Gertie" Loder, 90, of Washington, Iowa passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington following a lengthy illness.
Celebration of life services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 19, 2022, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Doug Tinnes officiating. The family will be present to receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Saturday the 19th at the funeral home. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Gertie was born on June 14, 1932, in Washington, Iowa, to Oakley and Violet (Beranek) Payne. She graduated from Washington High School in 1950. Gertie married James Loder on December 31, 1952, in Washington, Iowa.
Following their marriage, Gertie and James lived in Bozeman, Montana; Parker, Arizona; San Bernadino, California; and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma before moving back to Washington in 1971. While in high school, Gertie was an usher at the State Theater where her love for movies originated. She was a CNA at the U.P. Home for 44 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, doing puzzles, eating a bowl of ice cream and having a good laugh.
Gertie is survived by daughter, Janis (and Mike) Powers of Pleasant Plain, Iowa; daughter Jamie (and Greg) Hitt of Amarillo, Texas; grandchildren, James (and Erica) Powers, Emily (and Kurt) Schinstock, Michael (and Joe) Powers-Didominicis, Jen (and Casey) Thurston, Lydia (and Brett) Houston, Gregory (and Mollie) Hitt, Elizabeth Hitt, and Preston Hitt; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim; daughter, Jeri; and sisters, Nadine Harris and Darlene Adams.
