Gerry G. Gonterman, age 68, of Washington, Iowa, died suddenly on Sunday, August 12, 2018, at his residence following an accident.

Celebration of life services will be held 6:00 p.m. Thursday, August 16, 2018, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home. Calling hours will begin noon Thursday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 Thursday evening. Private family interment will take place at a later date. A general memorial has been established or a memorial to replenish trees at Sunset Park. Gerry was born July 4, 1950, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Floyd and Nela (Young) Gonterman. He graduated from Washington High School in 1968. Gerry was united in marriage to Vickie Kaufman on June 6, 1971, in Washington, Iowa.

Gerry was a life resident of Washington County. He worked for 32 years at McCleery Cumming Calendar Factory and worked at Sorrell Glass for five years. He was currently working at Hy-Vee Food Store where he was employed for the past 17 years. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Washington, Iowa. Gerry enjoyed woodworking, fixing things, and spending time outside working in his yard. He collected Santa's of all sizes. Gerry was an avid Chicago Bears fan and enjoyed attending games with his sons. He especially enjoyed the time spent with his grandchildren and making huge breakfasts for the family.

He is survived by his wife, Vickie Gonterman of Washington, Iowa; son, Brett Gonterman and wife Sarah of Kansas City, Missouri; son, Brandon Gonterman and girlfriend, Ashley Fee of Washington, Iowa; son, Blake Gonterman and wife Priscilla of Solon, Iowa; four grandchildren, Naomi, Gabe, Isaac and Cooper Gonterman; and two brothers: Dale Gonterman and wife Cindy of Washington, Iowa; and Bruce Gonterman and wife Susan of Independence, Iowa. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Carolyn Kaufman of Washington, IA; sisters-in-law: Marsha Chalupa and husband Randy of Wayland, IA; Linda Roth and husband Marlin of Mt. Pleasant, IA; Janet Davis and husband Kent of Washington, IA; and brothers-in-law: Steve Kaufman and wife Risa of Wayland, IA; and Andy Kaufman and wife Heidi of Mission, TX; aunt, Lois Fields and husband Gene of Riverside, IA; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Stan Dorsch of Washington, IA.

Gerry was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law, LeRoy Kaufman.
