Gerald D. Hoyle, age 80, of Washington, Iowa, died Friday, September 26, 2014, at the United Presbyterian Home.
Calling hours will begin noon Sunday at the Jones & Eden Funeral where the family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. Sunday. A private celebration of Gerald's life will be held at a later time. Memorials have been established for the Alzheimer's Association or for a project in memory of Gerald at the United Presbyterian Home. Gerald was born October 17, 1933, in Washington County, Iowa, the son of Howard Everette and Mary Ellen (Boileau) Hoyle. He attended Franklin Township country school and graduated from Washington High School. Gerald was united in marriage to Joan Marilyn Prescott on December 20, 1951 in Washington, Iowa.
Gerald farmed all of his life west of Washington. Following his retirement from farming, he was employed by the Highland Community School District and the Washington Community School District as a school bus driver for nearly 20 years. Gerald enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed hunting and his many fishing trips to Canada. Gerald traveled to Canada for the past 34 years to fish and spend time with his family and friends. His last trip to Canada was in earlier this month. He was an avid traveler and visited every state except Hawaii.
Gerald is survived by his wife, Joan M. Hoyle of Washington, Iowa; son, Jeff Hoyle and wife Carol of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Jeri Crile and husband Mark of Washington, Iowa; son, Joel Hoyle and wife Kara of Winthrop, Iowa; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
