Obituary

Gerald Gibson, age 75, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Friday, April 7, 2017, at Pearl Valley Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Washington.

A celebration of life service will be held 6:00 p.m. Monday, April 10, 2017, at the Brighton First Church of God with Pastor Rick Hughes, Pastor Jim Hughes and Pastor Don Ralston officiating. Gerald was born September 27, 1941, in Bon Terre, Missouri, the son of Jesse and Lila (Freeman) Gibson. He graduated from Leadwood High School and from Kansas State University with a B.A. in Political History. Gerald graduated from the Winebrenner Theological Seminary. He was united in marriage to Mary Jane Kellerby on June 6, 1981, in Neodesha, Kansas.

Gerald has been a resident of Washington, Iowa since 1994. He was very active in church camps in his younger years and served as a Pastor for 30 years. He was an ordained minister for the Churches of God General Conference. Gerald served as Pastor at various churches in Kansas, Ohio and Missouri. He was the Pastor at Alice Church of God near Conrad for four years and most recently The Church of God in Wapello.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Gibson of Washington, IA; daughter, Wendy Thomas and husband Randy of West Virginia; son, Erick Gibson and wife Kim of Iowa City, IA; 3 grandchildren; 1 step-grandchild; 1 great-grandson; and many step-brothers and step-sisters.

He was preceded in death by his mother and step-father and his father and step-mother.
