Reverend Gerald F. Brown, age 81, of Washington, passed away May 8th, 2014.
Celebration of life services will be held Saturday, May 24th, 2014 at 1:00 pm at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Washington, Iowa where the family will receive friends from 10:00 am until 11:30 am. There will be a luncheon from 11:30 am until 1 pm. Pastor Maureen Howard will be officiating, along with a Grandson, Pastor James Miller. Interment will be at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. Gerald was born December 30th, 1932 in Steven's County, MN, the son of Russell H. and Laura (Dohmstriech) Brown. He attended high school in Morris, Minnesota and graduated from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa with a Bachelor's degree. He was united in marriage to Marian Graf on September 1st, 1956 at the Evangelical Lutheran Church Headquarters in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He then went on to obtain his Masters in Divinity from Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa. Gerald was an ordained Lutheran Minister for 55 years, the pastor of churches in Yorktown, TX; St. Paul, Harmony, Granger and Myrtle, MN; Malcom and Tama, IA. Following his retirement, Gerald and Marian moved to Washington were they have resided for the last 20 years. Gerald faithfully supported his children and grandchildren in their various endeavors.
Gerald was an outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. When he was not graciously donating his time to volunteer work, he might be found cooking, gardening or playing games, particularly cards and dominos. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife, Marian; daughter, Cynthia Brown-Smith of Washington, Iowa; son, Stuart Brown and wife Tracy of Wausau, Wisconsin; daughter, Helen Clubb and husband Jeff of Keswick, Iowa; son, Dion Brown and wife Carmencita of West Des Moines, Iowa; grandchildren, James and Jerred Miller, Carissa Jones, Brianna Brown, Selena Smith, Aaron, Ashley and Anna Brown, Nate and Allison Clubb and Gabrielle Brown; great-grandchildren, Xavier, River, Harrison and Jerred Miller, Brooklyn and Braxton Jones and Aiden Feldman; sisters, Barbara Brown and husband Don, Evelyn Anderson and husband Darrell, Louise Godfrey, Marjorie Moore, Dorothy Green and husband Dave; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Harvey Brown.
