George Gould, age 89, formerly of Washington, Iowa and Corvallis, Oregon, passed away Saturday, April 17, 2010 in Canby Oregon following a decline in health the past two years and more steadily the last several weeks.
According to his wishes, his body was cremated and no funeral services were held.
George was born on January 9, 1921 near Conesville, Iowa to Joseph W. and Ora (Murdock) Gould. He worked alongside his father on their family farm until he enlisted in the United States Navy following the attack on Pearl Harbor. On March 25, 1950, he was united in marriage to Juanita Murphy of Washington. They farmed west of Washington from 1964 until moving to Brighton in 1974. He worked for George Baker in Washington after his naval discharge and retired in 1979 from the Washington Post Office after 28 years of service. In 1986 he and Juanita moved to Corvallis, Oregon to be near their daughter and her family. He loved his family and had a strong respect of and appreciation for nature, enjoying pets, wildlife, gardening, hiking, fishing, and hunting. He was a member of the American Legion Post 201 and the NRA.
George is survived by his wife, Juanita Gould of Canby, Oregon; daughter, Deb (Chuck) Longest of Washington; granddaughter, Marci (Jimmy) Fox of West Linn, Oregon; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; three sisters; one nephew; and son-in-law, Gary Franzen.
