George Edward "Ed" Chalupa, age 87, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Thursday, October 2, 2025, at his residence surrounded by family.
Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 9, 2025, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Darren Brown officiating. Calling hours will begin 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will be present to receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.. Interment with military honors will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established for Hospice of Washington County or Sonshine Ministry. Ed was born November 10, 1937, in Washington, Iowa, the son of George Albert and Nellie Marie (Schneider) Chalupa. He graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1956. Following high school, Ed served honorably in the United States Air Force. Ed was united in marriage to Virginia V. Macasaquit on March 24, 1987, in Tarlac, Philippines.
Ed worked as a truck driver all of his life. He was a member of the Grace Community Church in Washington. He enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, going to the casino and coffee time at the Eagle's Nest.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Chalupa of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Sherry Shelton of Daphne, Alabama; daughter, Jennifer (Dave) Gardner of Douds, Iowa; son, Jonathan (LeeAnn) Chalupa of Wellman, Iowa; son, Jason (Jillian) Chalupa of Washington, Iowa; grandchildren: Wendy (Aric) Boyce, Eli and Ian Arbogast, Jared (Cortney) Shelton, Hannah, Hailey and Matthew Chalupa, Kynsley and Kylo Chalupa; siblings: Jean Jacoby of Buena Vista, California; JoAnn Swift of Cedar Falls, Iowa; Darrell Chalupa of Wayland, Iowa; Doug (Annette) Chalupa of Washington, Iowa; Carl (Martha) Chalupa of Washington, Iowa; Gerry Farrier of Washington, Iowa; Vicki Anderson of Wayland, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Cindy Hines; granddaughter, Hope Chalupa; sisters, Margaret Fry, Marjorie McKinstry, Betty Zehr, Virginia Houseal, Donna Marsh; and an infant brother.
