Frederick H. Deaver, age 73, of West Chester, Iowa, died Sunday, April 3, 2016, at his residence following a lengthy battle with cancer.
Celebration of life services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 9, 2016 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington with Pastor Bob Spilger officiating. Calling hours will begin noon Friday, April 8, 2016 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Interment will take place at the West Chester Cemetery at a later date. Fred was born February 25, 1943, in Beacon, Iowa, the son of Harry and Elizabeth (Newton) Deaver. He attended school in Beacon, Iowa, through the eighth grade and graduated from Oskaloosa High School. Fred was united in marriage to Kathy Warden on February 15, 1964, in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
Following high school, Fred worked for Fareway Food Store and began working part time at Hy-Vee Food Store in 1972. Fred and Kathy were partners of the Waukee Meat Market in Waukee, Iowa, and later were partners in the Adel Supermarket. They later owned and operated a Pronto Convenience Store in Waukee. Fred worked as a full time meat cutter for Hy-Vee until 1981 when he became Market Manager at the then new Pleasant Hill store until his retirement in 1999. Fred worked as a meat cutter in Arkansas during his retirement. Fred enjoyed playing golf and fishing and more recently he enjoyed bowling, doing yardwork, gardening, hunting, and was an avid reader.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Deaver of West Chester, Iowa; daughter, Gloria Hoeger and husband Gary of Chariton, Iowa; son, Tony Deaver and wife Tara of Columbia, Missouri; six grandchildren: Nate, Lucas and Sydney Hoeger, and Brayden, Cole and Reagan Deaver; and one sister, Mary Gott of Beacon, Iowa; and a large extended family including many nieces and nephews.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers and sisters.
