Fred W. Bruegge, age 74, of Washington, Iowa, died Saturday, December 07, 2013, at his residence after being seriously ill for the past sixteen months.
Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 10, 2013, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Harald Gruber officiating. Visitation will begin 4:00 p.m. Monday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. Fred was born July 3, 1939, in Washington County, Iowa, the son of Herman and Dora (Arduser) Bruegge. He attended Prairie Flower and Red Brick schools and graduated from Washington High School in 1958. He later attended and graduated from the Iowa School of Cosmetology in Iowa City, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Marlene Ferrell on October 13, 1963 in Kahoka, Missouri.
Fred owned and operated Water King in Washington, Iowa, where he sold and serviced water conditioning systems for many years. He worked at Fareway Food Store for over twenty years and also worked for Lowdens Manufacturing in Fairfied, Iowa and Perfex Manufacturing in Washington, Iowa. In his younger days, Fred enjoyed dancing, playing cards and riding motorcycles. He recently enjoyed doing yardwork, woodworking and he especially loved spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren's activities.
He is survived by his wife, Marlene Bruegge of Washington, Iowa; son Kevin Bruegge and wife Lisa of North Liberty, Iowa; daughter, Rhonda Goodwin and husband Ron of Coralville, Iowa; daughter, Myndi Leyden and husband Joel of Winner, South Dakota; seven grandchildren: Zac Goodwin, Dylan Goodwin and wife Sabrina, Mitchell Bruegge, Matthew Bruegge, Abi Leyden, Olivia Goodwin, and Isabelle Leyden. Fred is also survived by two brothers: Dale Bruegge and wife Pat of Washington, Iowa; and Arnold Bruegge of Washington, Iowa.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Dorance Bruegge; and two sisters-in-law: Joanne Bruegge and Janet Ferrell Marshall.
