Frank Sondag Jr., age 90, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at the Washington County Hospital.

A graveside service and interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Bethel Cemetery in Sigourney, Iowa, with Pastor Darryl Carr officiating. Frank was born October 4, 1927 in Rural Harper, Iowa, the son of Frank and Elizabeth (Klett) Sondag. He was raised in the Harper area and attended rural schools. Frank was united in marriage to Evelyn Moore on June 11, 1955 in What Cheer, Iowa.

Frank served honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War. After he was discharged, he started working for Iowa Southern Utilities Company in Keota and retired in 1989 after working there for 40 years. During his employment, he worked in Keota, Sigourney and Washington. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and a member of the Masons. Frank played in a country western band when he was younger and enjoyed gardening, watching TV and his dogs, Penny and Molly.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Sondag; several nieces and nephews including: Debra Linder; Louise (Gary) Cunningham; Vern (Cathy) Fair, Sharolyn Adams, Judy Fair, and Brian McNamer; and special friend, LuAnn Allar.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Victoria Dearby, Maude Fair, Bernice Adams and Janette Good; brothers, Wilford, Willard and Willis who died during WWII; nephews, Richard Sondag, Dennis Adams, Charles Fair; and niece, Sandra McNamer.
