Frank Burdett Hanshew, age 92, of Washington, Iowa, died Monday, August 26, 2019, in Washington, Iowa.
Celebration of life services will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday, September 28, 2019, at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa, with Chaplain Andrew Zuehlke officiating. Military honors will be accorded by members of the United States Air Force and the Washington American Legion post 29. The Jones & Eden Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Frank was born December 25, 1926, in Paola, Kansas, the son of Miles S. and Ethel M. (Scoville) Hanshew. He attended school in Paola, Kansas. Frank served honorably in the United States Army and the United States Air Force for 26 years. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
While stationed in Panama, Frank met his wife Vilma C. Garcia and were united in marriage April 7, 1956.
Frank was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was proud to have fished in every ocean and visited every continent. He was proud to serve his country in any capacity he could.
He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Kennedy and husband Jim of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Karen Prentice and husband Kevin Condon of Phoenix, Arizona; five grandchildren, Christine Sernick Kennedy and husband Alex Sernick Kennedy of Minneapolis, MN; Kathleen Kennedy and husband Ryan Cox of Rochester, MN; Jacob Prentice of Phoenix, AZ; Zachary Prentice and fiancé Lily Wilhelm of Flagstaff, AZ; and Lynnette Kennedy of Iowa City, IA.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Vilma Hanshew in 2008; and siblings, Miles Hanshew Jr., Thelma Hanshew, Arlene Hughes, Maxine Attebery and Dolores Watkins.
