Francis A. "Babe" Campbell, age 78, of Washington, Iowa, died Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a sudden illness.
Celebration of life services will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, November 3, 2012 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Rev. Dean Elmore officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service. Interment with military honors will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery in Muscatine, Iowa. Francis was born November 13, 1933 in Muscatine, Iowa the son of Francis A. and Violet Grace (Townsley) Campbell. He attended country schools throughout the United States. Francis served in the United States Army during the Korean War Conflict where he participated in building runways for the Air Force. .
Francis had been a resident of Washington for the past 42 years. He worked as a truck driver for most of his life. He was employed by Builders Transportation for over 20 years until his retirement in 2003.
Francis attended the Faith Baptist Church in Washington. He enjoyed fishing on the Muscatine River and loved trucking and traveling.
Francis is survived by Esther Feltz of Washington, Iowa; his nieces and nephews; as well as his great- and great-great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother in 1978; his father in 1982; and one sister, Patsy Gearin in 1983.
