Obituary

Frances E. Crawford Stackhouse, age 87, of Amana, Iowa, formerly of Washington, Iowa, died Saturday, May 10, 2014, at Colonial Manor in Amana following a short illness.

Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington with Rev. Kitch Shatzer officiating. Calling hours will begin noon Tuesday at the Jones & Eden Funeral where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Frances was born December 23, 1926, in Washington County, Iowa, the daughter of Ira Ranson and Anna Marie (Tusing) Amlong. She attended country schools in Washington County, Iowa. Frances was united in marriage to Lyle James Crawford on December 9, 1943. He preceded her in death in 1968. She was later married to Marvin Stackhouse on April 7, 1978.

Frances had lived in Washington, Iowa, and Marshalltown, Iowa, before moving to Amana. She worked in a shoe factory in Dixon, Illinois, and later worked at McCleery Cumming Company in Washington, Iowa. She worked for a time at Jack Hamilton's Supper Club in Washington and provided Child Care for several years.

She enjoyed going to garage sales and was on a constant search for bargains. Frances enjoyed playing Bingo, baking and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Marvin Stackhouse of Amana, Iowa; daughter, Thea Jo Walton and husband Bob of Iowa City, Iowa; son, Melvin Crawford and wife Carolyn of Amana, Iowa; daughter, Corliss Donovan and husband Mike of Iowa City, Iowa; daughter, Lyla Erwin and husband Don of Williamsburg, Iowa; 35 Grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. She is also survived by his step-daughter, Diane Grooms of North Carolina; step-son, David Stackhouse of Marion, Iowa; 7 step grandchildren and a number of step great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lyle James Crawford, three sons: George, David and Terry Crawford; two daughters, Bonnie Krogman and Connie Bringer; and her siblings, Helen Coon Swailes, Florence Leffler, Bob Amlong, Elsie Crandall, Pearl Whetstine, Hazel Madison and Bernice Kerr.
