Florence O. Schumacher, age 90, of Mt. Pleasant formerly of Washington died Sunday, May 8, 2011 at the Henry County Hospital in Mt. Pleasant following a decline in health.
Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at St. James Catholic Church in Washington with Fr. Troy Richmond and Fr. Tony Schumacher officiating. A rosary will begin at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. James Church after which the family will receive friends. The family will also receive friends following services in Tobin Hall during a time of food and fellowship. A memorial has been established to St. James Parish. Florence was born May 19, 1920 in Remsen, Iowa the daughter of Henry and Anna (Stuntebeck) Krogman. She graduated from St. Mary's High School in Remsen, Iowa in 1937 and completed cosmetology school in Sioux City, Iowa. Florence was united in marriage to Leo J. Schumacher on October 28, 1940 in Halber, Iowa. She worked in Spencer, Iowa as a beauty operator, and in Washington at The Captain's Table, Washington Café, Seiferts, The Stable, and H.J. Opps. Throughout her life, she also lived in Omaha, Nebraska; Sioux City, LeMars; Storm Lake and Washington, Iowa. Florence was a member of St. James Church, Catholic Daughters, St. James Circle, and was a choir member at St. Marys Church in Storm Lake and at St. James Church in Washington for a total of 30 years.
Florence is survived by her daughter, Connie McKnight and husband Dr. James of Brookings, South Dakota; son, Dr. Dennis Schumacher and wife Sydney Quinn of Big Pine, California; daughter, Joan Leyden and husband Kim of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Barbara Leffel and friend Randall Pentecost of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; son, Mark Schumacher of Bishop, California; daughter, Lisa Stankovich and husband Sasha of Flagstaff, Arizona; brother-in-law, Jim Morgan of Scottsdale, Arizona and daughter-in-law, Patty Schumacher of Mankato, Minnesota; a brother-in-law, Fr. Tony Schumacher; and sister-in-law, Eleanor Schumacher; twelve grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo Schumacher; four brothers, Clarence; Frank; Henry; and Joe Krogman; and four sisters, Marie Knebel; Helen Morgan; Irene Kipper; Jeanie Kelly; and one great-granddaughter.
