Florence A. Augustine, age 97, of Keota, Iowa, formerly of Washington, Iowa, died Wednesday, December 31, 2014, at the Keota Health Care Center in Keota, Iowa.
Celebration of life services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2015, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with the Rev. Herb Yoder officiating. Visitation will begin 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday. Interment will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery at a later date. Memorials have been established for the Washington County Extension Service to assist local 4-H programs. Florence was born August 3, 1917, in rural West Chester, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Hanna (Wagenknecht) Zieglowsky. She attended the Benson/Havre Country School in rural Washington County. Florence was united in marriage to David Archer Augustine on January 12, 1942 in Kahoka, Missouri.
Following their marriage, Florence worked at a Drug Store in Mt. Pleasant and later as a Maid in Washington, Iowa. When D. Archer arrived back from the service, the couple moved to a farm north of Dublin, Iowa. Florence began working as a C.N.A. at Maplewood Manor in Keota in 1965. In 1969 they moved to a farm north of Brighton, Iowa. Florence assisted her husband with the family farm operation for 33 years. For many years, Florence wrote the Hartsock News for the Washington Evening Journal. She and her husband owned and operated the Coffee Car in Washington from 1972 until 1995.
Florence was an active member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Washington. She was currently a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Washington where she enjoyed her involvement with the Church Circles. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge for over fifty years having served as Noble Grand. Florence was a member of Farm Bureau for many years and enjoyed gardening and canning.
She is survived by her son, Michael Augustine and wife Sandie of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; daughter, Florene "Jo" Duwa and husband Dennis of Wellman, Iowa; step-son, Richard Augustine and wife Marilyn of Washington, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Eric Augustine and wife Sabrina of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Tim Augustine of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Kaitlyn Hill and husband Josh of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Kelly Gengler and husband Kirby of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Kasey Wilkins and wife Pam of Chariton, Iowa; Jason Duwa and wife Andrea of Kalona, Iowa; and Stacy Duwa of Wayland, Iowa; 12 great grandchildren; and one sister, Bernice Arnold of Sun City, Arizona.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1995; three brothers, Henry, Richard and Earl Zieglowsky, and an infant sister, Velma Zieglwosky.
