Ferne Beatrice Carr, age 88, of Washington, Iowa died Monday, September 20, 2010 at the Halcyon House following a short illness.

Graveside services will be held 10:00 am Friday, September 24, 2010 at West Chester Cemetery in West Chester with Pastor Darryl Carr officiating. Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m. Thursday at Jones - Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A memorial has been established to the American Cancer Society. Ferne was born April 13, 1922 in Wellman, Iowa the daughter of William Wesley and Bernice Lorraine (Stover) Carr. She graduated from West Chester High School.
Ferne lived all of her life in the Wellman and Washington communities. She farmed with her father for many years in the Grace Hill area. She also worked for McCleery Cumming Company for 23 years before retiring in 1987. Ferne was an avid Chicago Cubs, Bears, Bulls and Blackhawks fan. She enjoyed all sports especially watching the Olympics. Ferne enjoyed gardening and spending time with her nieces and nephews and their families.

Ferne is survived by two sisters-in-law Ruth Carr of Washington, Iowa and Betty Carr of West Chester, Iowa as well as five nieces and nephews, numerous great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Morton Carr and Orin Carr.
