Everette W. Evans, age 87, of Coralville, Iowa died Sunday, August 3, 2014 at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City after a long battle with cancer and heart complications. He was surrounded by his family.
Celebration of life services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 5, 2014, at the Iowa City Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Iowa City with Pastor Dale Morrison officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Tuesday morning at the Iowa City Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Interment will take place at Sandy Hook Cemetery in Brighton, Iowa. Memorials have been established for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and for the American Cancer Society. Everette was born April 11, 1927, in Hedrick, Iowa, the son of Eddie Flint and Mildred (Derby) Evans. He attended school in Farson, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Gladys Stout in 1953 in Washington, Iowa. Everette worked for Washington Concrete and then for the VA Hospital in Iowa City for 33 years. He was an active member of the Iowa City Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Everette was a very kind and caring man who worked hard and loved his family dearly. He enjoyed music, especially the Carter family and spent much of his time socializing with those he loved. Everette was devoted to his family, his religion and his greenery and farm. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys Evans of Coralville, Iowa: daughter, Grace Scammell of Marion, Iowa; daughter, Vera Burch of Coralville, Iowa; son, John Evans of Coralville, Iowa; ten grandchildren and their spouses and significant others; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Ernest Evans of Oskaloosa, Iowa; brother, Junior Evans of Oskaloosa, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
