Everett E. "Ed" Evans, age 56, of Washington, Iowa died Thursday, November 24, 2011 at the Washington All American Care Center in Washington, Iowa.
Graveside services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday at Sandy Hook Cemetery in rural Brighton with Pastor Don Ruffenach officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:00 until 5:00 p.m Sunday at the Jones Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. Interment with military honors conducted by Washington American Legion Post 29 will take place at Sandy Hook Cemetery. Ed was born July 28, 1955 in Washington, Iowa the son of Everette W. and Gladys M. (Stout) Evans. He attended elementary school in Brighton and West Liberty and attended high school in West Branch. Following high school, Ed served in the United States Army during the end of the Vietnam Conflict where he was stationed in Berlin. He was united in marriage to Janet Scott on November 11, 1983 in Iowa City, Iowa.
Ed was a truck driver for Dickey Transport in Packwood, Iowa for many years. He was previously employed at Transport America in North Liberty. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. Ed enjoyed martial arts, cooking and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife Janet Evans of Washington, Iowa; son Shane Evans of Coralville, Iowa; daughter Morgan Evans of Washington, Iowa; daughter Taylor Evans of Washington, Iowa; parents Everette and Gladys (Stout) Evans of Coralville, Iowa; sister Grace Scammell of Marion, Iowa; sister Vera Evans-Burch of Coralville, Iowa; and his brother John Evans of Coralville, Iowa.
Ed was preceded in death by his grandparents John Edward and Grace (Singleton) Stout as well as two brothers-in-law, Robert H. Scammell and Paul R. Burch Sr.
