Evelyn Marie Witthoft, age 88, of Washington, Iowa, died Tuesday, September 16, 2014, at the Halcyon House in Washington following a brief illness.
Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 19, 2014, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Maureen Howard officiating. Calling hours will begin 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church where the family will receive friends from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery. Evelyn was born February 11, 1926, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Ted and Margaretta (Deal) Givans. She graduated from Washington High School and attended nursing school in Marshalltown. Evelyn was united in marriage to Wayne A. Witthoft on July 3, 1949 at the Evangelical and Reform Church in Washington, Iowa.
Evelyn was a Registered Nurse and helped her husband on the farm. She was an Elementary School teacher's aide at Lincoln Elementary. Evelyn taught Sunday school for over forty years at both the United Church of Christ and Immanuel Lutheran Church in Washington. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Ted Witthoft and wife Chris of Des Moines, Iowa; son, Tom Witthoft and wife Ann Apprill of Clive, Iowa; son, Allen Witthoft and wife Tammy of Epworth, Iowa; two granddaughters, Rachel Witthoft of Fitchburg, Wisconsin and Abby Witthoft of Shenandoah, Iowa; two grandsons, Tyler and Colten Witthoft Epworth, Iowa; one step-grandson, Corey Apprill and wife Kim of Merrill, Wisconsin as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wayne, in 2012; two grandchildren, Kaleb and Heidi Witthoft; her brother, Max Givans; and her sister, Helen Stone.
