Eugene Engel, age 99, of Washington, Iowa, died Monday, October 13, 2014, at the Washington County Hospital following a short illness.

Celebration of life services will be held Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Washington Mennonite Church with Amanda Beachy officiating. Visitation will begin noon Friday, October 17, 2014 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Interment will take place at the Grace Hill Moravian Cemetery in rural Washington County, Iowa. Stanley Eugene Engel was born July 16, 1915, in rural Brighton, Iowa, the son of Harlow and Emma Amelia (Buxbaum) Engel. He graduated from Washington High School in 1933 and received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He was united in marriage to D. Louise Waterhouse on October 26, 1947 at the Grace Hill Moravian Church in rural Washington, Iowa.

Eugene farmed all of his life in the Washington Community retiring in 1980. He was a member of the Washington Mennonite Church and of Gideon's International.

Eugene is survived by daughter, Mary Martin and husband Harmon of Washington, Iowa; son, Frederick "Fritz" Engel and wife Sharon of Brighton, Iowa; daughter, Christina Dyess and husband James of Seguin, Texas; ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Louise in 2009.
