Erin Wayne Kalb, age 51, of Washington, Iowa, died Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa after a sudden illness.
A celebration of life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at the Washington High School Gymnasium. The family will receive friends at the Washington High School from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. Erin Wayne Kalb was born November 27, 1961 in Kansas City, Missouri the son of Ken Kalb and Esther Lebsack. He graduated from Regina High School in Iowa City in 1980. He was previously married to Milissa (McDonald) Wright. He had been married to Sharyl Frogge for the last fifteen years.

Erin had been a resident of Washington for more than twenty years. He had previously lived in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Erin worked as the head custodian at Washington Community Schools, where he was fondly referred to as "Big E" in the halls.

He was a member of Pheasants Forever, and was an avid outdoorsman. When he was not working, Erin was enjoying the outdoors. He loved fishing, hunting, and traveling. He was a gardener who enjoyed making salsa and preserves, canning, and jarring. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, who lovingly called him "Grandpa E."

Erin is survived by wife Sharyl Frogge; father Ken Kalb and step-mother Nance Driscoll of Grantham, New Hampshire; mother Esther Norris and step-father Sam of Warren, Indiana; daughter Lindsay Wiegand and husband Darrell of Bixby, Oklahoma; son Timothy Kalb and wife Trisha of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; son Thomas Kalb of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; son Treyton Kalb of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; daughter Abigail Duwa-Rustioni and husband Edward of South Korea; daughter Alayna Duwa of Washington, Iowa; five grandchildren: Jaden, Emily, and Samantha Wiegand of Bixby, Oklahoma; Jonah and Isaac Kalb of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a sixth grandchild is expected in April; as well as brother Jeri Kalb and wife Sande of Englewood, Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: Jacob and Marie Lebsack; paternal grandparents: Shirley and Hilda Kalb; Uncle Al Lebsack and Aunt Vi Lebsack.
