Obituary

Ellen Elizabeth Pronga, age 101, of Washington, Iowa, died Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at the M.L. McCreedy Home in Washington.

Cremation rites have been accorded. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2013 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home. Private family interment will take place at the Oregon Township Cemetery. A memorial has been established to Friends of Lake Darling. Ellen was born May 26, 1911 in Washington, Iowa the daughter of Charles Howard and Minnie (Wilkins) Wolfe. She graduated from Ainsworth High School and Monmouth College.

Ellen taught school in Zwingle, Iowa where she married Lester Pronga. After farming near Zwingle for fifteen years, they moved to farm near Ainsworth, Iowa. Ellen taught in the Washington Junior High School for nineteen years until her retirement in 1976.

Ellen is survived by three sons: Louis (Lois) Pronga of Chillicothe, Illinois; Melvin (Jean Nilsson) Pronga of Canton, Connecticut; Harold (Connie) Pronga of Waukon, Iowa; and one daughter: Madellen (Bob) Spaete of Colorado Springs, Colorado; twelve grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and sister Esther Krigbaum of Durham, North Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lester; brothers Howard and Tom Wolfe, and sisters Alice Zeck and Isabelle Stubbe.
