Elaine Zahs, 90, of Ainsworth, died Thursday, December 18, 2014 at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona of infirmities of old age.
Celebration of life services will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, December 21, 2014 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington with Mike Zahs officiating. Calling hours will begin 10:00 a.m. Sunday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. Interment will be held at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Frances Elaine was born November 20, 1924 in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Edgar S. and Marie A. (Skubal) Whetstine. She attended Round Grove School in rural Haskins and graduated from Cotter High School. She studied business at Iowa Wesleyan College. Elaine was united in marriage to Dean E. Zahs on November 23, 1944 at her parents' home in rural Ainsworth, Iowa.
Elaine was a life-long member of the Ainsworth Community. She cared for her home and helped her husband farm. Elaine was a member of Salem Church of God. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, gardening and spending time with her family.
Elaine is survived by her son, Michael D. Zahs and wife Julie of Riverside, Iowa; son, Donald G Zahs and wife Sandra of Coralville, Iowa; daughter, Kathryn M. Johnson and husband James of Miles, Iowa; daughter, Carolyn F. Dohrmann and husband Joel of Dewitt, Iowa; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; aunt, Wanda Skubal of Washington, Iowa; and former daughter-in-law, Nannette Zahs.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2001; infant brother, Harold Whetstine; granddaughter, Kolynn Keil; and son-in-law, Roger Keil.
