Eileen L. Miller, age 101, of Washington, Iowa, formerly of Keota, died Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at the Halcyon House in Washington following a short illness.
Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 am Friday, August 10, 2012 at the Jones - Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Cluney officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Jones - Eden Funeral Home. Interment will take place at the Keota Cemetery in Keota, Iowa. Eileen was born May 24, 1911 in Dutch Creek Township, Iowa the daughter of Nicholas and Emma (Sheets) Tinnes. She attended Center School in Dutch Creek and later attended the Paris Academy of Beauty Culture in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She worked as a Beautician in Cedar Rapids, Iowa for a few years. Eileen was united in marriage to Waldo Miller on May 5, 1935 at the Buffalo United Methodist Church in Sigourney, Iowa.
She lived most of her life in the Keota area before moving to Halcyon House in September of 2011. Eileen was a homemaker and in 1958, began working as a Nurse's Aide in Keota. She later worked at Maplewood Manor Nursing Home in Keota. She retired from Maplewood Manor when she was in her mid 80's. She was known for her cake baking and was proud to have made wedding cakes for family and friends for over 30 years. Eileen enjoyed staying current with Iowa Hawkeye athletics.
She is survived by one daughter-in-law, Joy Miller Bothell of Lone Tree, Iowa; granddaughter, Laura Bombei and husband Steve of Keota, Iowa; grandson, Dr. Brian Miller and wife Peg, of Livermore, Colorado; six great grandchildren; Taylor, Justine, and Clint Bombei; and Kylee, Eli and Emma Miller.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Waldo Miller; one son, Denny Miller; three brothers; Myron, LeRoy and Cloyce Tinnes; and two sisters Luella Weaver and Nona Waters.
