Edna Lucille Sanders, age 99, of Iowa City, Iowa, formerly of Keota, died Saturday, January 6, 2018, at the Iowa City Rehab and Health Care Center following a lengthy illness.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 12, 2018, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington. Graveside services will follow at the New Haven Cemetery in rural Washington County. A general memorial has been established. Edna was born January 9, 1918, in rural Trenton, Iowa, the daughter of Lloyd Henry and Bessie Mae (Hinkle) Loeffler. She was born and raised in Henry County and moved to Jefferson County with her family when she was in sixth grade. She later moved to Washington County with her family at age 16. She attended West Chester High School. Edna was united in marriage to Lawrence "Lee" Sanders on August 31, 1935, in Keota, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 1969.

Edna was a homemaker and worked as a Nurses Aide at the Washington County Home and the Washington County Hospital. She was a Floor Manager and cook at Maplewood Manor in Keota for 15 years. Edna was a former member of the New Haven Baptist Church. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed gardening and caring for her flowers.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Sanders of Iowa City, Iowa; son, Leland Sanders of Rose Hill, KS; seven grandchildren: Tedi (Russ) Ingersoll of Mason City, IA; Teri Sanders of Waverly, IA; Traci Morrison of Pendleton, OR; Tim (Diane) Sanders of North Liberty, IA; Camille (Richard) Stocker of Albia, IA; Cameron Sanders of New Hampshire; and Cara (Denny) Drake of Exline, IA. She is also survived by 19 great grandchildren; 13 great great grandchildren; three great great great grandchildren and one sister, Wanda Stannard of Oakland, OR.

Edna was preceded in death by her husband; granddaughter, Timi Lee Roberts; six brothers and two sisters.
