Edith Corrine Simmering, age 88, of Washington, Iowa formerly of Ainsworth, died Saturday December 26, 2009 at the United Presbyterian Home following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, December 29,2009 at the Jones - Eden Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Wollenberg officiating. Visitation will begin 9:00 am Tuesday at the Jones - Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 9:00 - 11:00 Tuesday morning. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. Memorials have been established for the United Presbyterian Home. Edith was born August 19, 1921 in Wellman, Iowa the daughter of Clifford Ray and Berdina Marie (Volk) Miller. She graduated from West Chester High School. On July 4, 1939 Edith was united in marriage to Donald C. Simmering in Washington, Iowa.
Edith was a life resident of Washington County. She was a homemaker and did custom sewing, making wedding dresses and clothes, for family and friends. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Washington. She was a member of Questers and the Sunshine Neighborhood Club. Edith loved to cook and bake, especially pies.
She is survived by her son Ron Simmering and wife Teri of Bettendorf, Iowa; son Ed Simmering of Ainsworth, Iowa; son Don Simmering and wife Cindy of Ainsworth, Iowa; daughter-in-law Jan Simmering of Branson, Missouri; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in October 2009, one son Larry Simmering, two brothers Clifford and Edward C. Miller and one sister Pauline Kueneman.
