Earl Boon Wright, age 85, of Brighton, Iowa, died Sunday, March 30, 2014, at the Washington County Hospital following a sudden illness.
Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 3, 2014, at the Brighton United Church with Rev. Rick Zickefoose and Pastor Larry Black officiating. Calling hours will begin noon Wednesday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 Wednesday evening. Interment will take place at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Brighton, Iowa. Memorials have been established for Brighton First Responders, Brighton United Church or Victory Fellowship Church in Brighton. Earl was born January 8, 1929, in Tipton, Iowa, the son of Boon and Dorothy (Jackson) Wright. He graduated from Tipton High School and farmed in Tipton, Iowa, before and after his army tour. Earl served in the United States Army Boat Battalion for two years at the Panama Canal and Newfoundland. He was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Wentworth at the Brighton Methodist Church in 1954. The couple moved their farming operation to Brighton in 1960.
He was a member of the Brighton United Church and frequently attended Victory Fellowship Church. He liked fishing, family vacations, bible studies, attending his grandchildren's sporting events, scenic country drives, sharing the good news of Jesus Christ and blessing people in the name of Jesus. In later years he was seen often while wearing his yellow safety vest and riding his bicycle around Brighton. He was a member of the Full Gospel Business Men's Association and attended Ashrams. In his earlier days Earl served on the Washington County Pork Producer, Farm Bureau and Farm Service Boards.
He is survived by his wife, Mary of Brighton, Iowa; son, David B. Wright of Washington, Iowa; son, Craig Wright and wife Lynn of Brighton, Iowa; four grandchildren, Amanda Russell and husband Tyler, Macy Wright, Brett Wright and Jacob Carnes; and one brother, Alvin Wright of Tipton, Iowa.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents, and his younger sister, Helen Wright.
