E. Adele McPike, age 93, of Washington, Iowa, formerly of Emden, Missouri, died Wednesday, October 04, 2017, at the M.L. McCreedy Home in Washington following a short illness.
Visitation will begin 3:00 p.m. Friday, October 6th, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington, Iowa, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday. The family will also be present to receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Lewis Brothers Chapel in Palmyra, Missouri. Celebration of life services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 7th, at Lewis Brothers Chapel. Interment will take place at Emerson Cemetery in Emerson, Missouri. Evelyn Adele Spratt was born May 20, 1924, in Marion County, Missouri, the daughter of Gilbert Dean and Maude Faye (Ingraham) Spratt. She attended school in Emerson, Missouri, graduating from high school in 1942. Adele was united in marriage to Roy Lee McPike on May 23, 1945, in Quincy, Illinois.
Adele was a homemaker and was a supervisor for Shaklee Products which she sold for several years. She assisted her husband in the operation of McPike Brothers General Store for fifty years. Adele has lived in Washington, Iowa, since 2000. She was a member of Prairie Flower Baptist Church and a former member of Emden Baptist Church in Emden, Missouri. She enjoyed playing Scrabble, BINGO and Skipbo. Adele was known for her immaculate housekeeping and for being a competitive basketball player while in high school.
She is survived by her son, Ercil Lee McPike of Clarence, Missouri; daughter, Lori Ann Carroll and husband Darwin of Columbus Junction, Iowa; grandchildren, Curtis Lee Beckley and wife Robin of Clarence, Missouri; Christina Adele McPike of Clarence, Missouri; Derrick Carroll and wife Emily of Winfield, Iowa; Ramsie Farlow and husband Greg of Camp Point, Illinois; Braden Carroll of Columbus Junction, Iowa and Micah Carroll and special friend Samantha "Sam" Ryan of Columbus Junction, Iowa. Adele is also survived by great-grandchildren, Colten Garrett Beckley, Dolton Lee Beckley, Adlie Farlow, Brady Farlow, Colby Farlow, Layton Carroll and Audrey Carroll; as well as her faithful friend, Milo Luers of Washington, Iowa.
Adele was preceded in death by her husband Roy on September 28, 2001; and six siblings, Reba Simmons, Ercil Spratt, Lilburn Spratt, Neva Tallman, Marion Spratt and infant sister, Mary Spratt.
