Dwight J. Graber, age 77, of Washington, died Monday, May 03, 2010 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics following a short illness.
Celebration of life services will be held 4:00 pm Friday at the United Methodist Church in Washington with Rev. Julie Poulsen officiating. Visitation will begin 2:00 pm Thursday at the United Methodist Church where the family will receive friends 6:00 until 8:00 Thursday evening. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. Memorials have been established for the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association. Dwight was born December 1, 1932 on a farm in Henry County, Iowa the son of Glen and Marcella (Hinkle) Graber. He attended Eagle Country School and graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School. Dwight was united in marriage to Juanita Christner on April 8,1952 at the Methodist Church in Washington, Iowa.
Dwight and Juanita moved to a farm northwest of Mt. Pleasant and then south of Wayland. He quit farming in 1958. Dwight worked for Sitlers, Loveless Supply Company for 23 years and later for the Washington Community School District until his retirement. While on the farm, Dwight worked for Lloyd Peterson and Wayland Feed & Grain.
He was a member of the Untied Methodist Church where he was on the Board of Trustees and an usher. He was an avid collector of Allis Chalmers Tractors and loved to repair and paint toy tractors. He was a member of the Wayland Antique Tractor Club. Dwight enjoyed attending toy shows, fishing and camping.
He is survived by his wife Juanita Graber of Washington, Iowa; son Jerry Graber and wife Carolyn of Washington, Iowa; daughter Janet Graber of Washington, Iowa; son Randy Graber and wife Jerri of Washington, Iowa; and daughter Juanita Wilson and husband Don of Lodi, Wisconsin. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Phil, Pam, Justin, Alicia, Rose and Jake and great grandchildren Scott, Sabrina, Tim, Madison, Lauren, Audrina, Taylor and Matt, step grandchildren Anna, Rebekah, Corissa, and Dominick and step great grandchildren, Layla and Elijah as well as one brother Roger Graber and wife Debra of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, and one sister Thelma Scarff of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.
Dwight was preceded in death by his parents, great granddaughter Sydney Allen, one brother Donald Graber and one Sister Wanda Barnett.
