Duane Francis Redlinger, age 83, of Washington, Iowa, died Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at his residence.
Mass of the Resurrection will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Febrary 8, 2014 at St. James Catholic Church with Fr. Troy Richmond officiating. Visitation will begin noon Friday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday. Prayer services will be held 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for St. James Church or W.C.C.D. (Washington County Citizens with Disablities). Duane was born April 6, 1930, in Washington County Iowa the son of Earl and Juanita (Pieper) Redlinger. He attended St. James School and graduated from Washington High School in 1947. He was united in marriage to Mary Joan Fields on January 16, 1951 in Davenport, Iowa.
Duane was a lifelong resident of Washington, Iowa where he farmed northwest of Washington all of his life. He was an active member of St. James Church having served on Parish Council and many other committees. Duane was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a Fourth Degree Knight. He was very active with A.R.C. (Association for Retarded Citizens) where he served as President for many years. He was instrumental in starting Washington County Developmental Center, and helped organize the A.R.C. Pancake Day. Duane also helped organize handicapped housing in Washington, Iowa. He was a member of the National Farmers Organization and was involved in many civic activities.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Redlinger of Washington, Iowa; six daughters: Nancy Rezabek and husband Frank of Columbia, Missouri; Pat Redlinger of Ames, Iowa; Marsha Parker and husband Joe of Ottumwa, Iowa; Carol Hoyle and husband Jeff of Washington, Iowa; Franny Otte and husband Kevin of Clive, Iowa; Rhonda Redlinger of Washington, Iowa; eight grandchildren and one great grandson. He is also survived by two sisters; Margaleen Marshall and husband Dean of Iowa City, Iowa, and Mary Louise Ramseyer and husband Harry of Tempe, Arizona.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents, one sister – Barb Williams, and one brother – Bill Redlinger.
