Obituary

Donald "Duane" Martin, age 82, of Kansas City, Missouri, formerly of Washington, Iowa, died Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at St. Luke's Hospital following a brief illness.

Celebration of life services will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday, December 10, 2016, at the United Presbyterian Church in Washington with Rev. Kitch Shatzer officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the United Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery at a later date. Donald "Duane" Martin was born June 2, 1934, in Washington, Iowa, the son of David Eugene and Dora (Stockman) Martin. Duane graduated from Washington High School in 1952 and attended Iowa State University for three years. He was united in marriage to Cecelia "CeAnn" Klopfenstein on August 11, 1956, in Washington, Iowa. Duane served honorably in the United States Army from 1956 until 1959.

Duane worked 25 years for DuPont where he was a management trainer. He was a member of the Platte Wood Methodist Church, the Gladstone Duplicate Bridge Club and was an avid fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago Bears, Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals. He was a member of the Shoal Creek Country Club where he was an avid golfer. While in Washington, Duane was active with the Stephens Ministry at the United Presbyterian Church and delivered Meals on Wheels. He loved reading and the history of the Civil War. Duane was a loving family man and adored his family. He had a wonderful sense of humor and zest for life.

He is survived by his wife, CeAnn Martin of Kansas City, Missouri; son, Jeffrey Duane Martin of Topeka, Kansas; son David Scott Martin and wife Julia of Sedalia, Missouri; daughter, Cindy Michalek and husband Daniel of Kansas City, Missouri; six grandchildren: Logan, Brooke, Gabby, Sophie, Zach and Jordan; one great granddaughter, Ava Hanvy; two sisters, Dorla McLaughlin of Temple, Texas; and Dee Martin of Des Moines, Iowa; as well as five nephews.
