Duane Russell Brock, age 84, of Washington, Iowa formerly of Grand Junction, Colorado, died Saturday, October 16, 2010 at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington following a lengthy illness.
Memorial services will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday, October 21st at the Arvada Presbyterian Church in Arvada, Colorado with Rev. John O'Lane officiating. Interment will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday, October 22nd at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Morrill, Nebraska. Memorial services will be held in conjunction with Evensong services, 6:30 p.m. Sunday, October 24th at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington, Iowa with Rev. Jean Wollenberg officiating. Duane was born November 24, 1925 in Melbeta, Nebraska the son of Harry Oilla and Hattie Matilda (Burkman) Brock. He graduated from Mitchell High School in Mitchell, Nebraska and attended the University of Nebraska. On January 17, 1951, Duane was united in marriage to Carolyn Jane Sayre in Nebraska City, Nebraska. She preceded him in death in 1994.
Duane served in the United States Navy during World War II. He worked as a Park Ranger in Rocky Mountain National Park and later worked at Rocky Flats Atomic Energy Plant. Duane owned and operated Spruce Tree Furniture Company for many years. He was a salesman for Western Tool Company until his retirement in 1994. Duane was a Boy Scout Scoutmaster, a Merit Badge Counselor and a dedicated dad and grand dad. He enjoyed playing BINGO, going on mountain drives, playing cards and was an avid Denver Broncos fan.
He is survived by four children including daughter Linda "Kitch" Shatzer of Ainsworth, Iowa; son Robert "Bob" Brock and wife Toni of Arvada, Colorado; son William "Bill" Brock and wife Clara of Corvalis, Oregon; daughter Sue Travers and husband Bill of Everett, Washington; 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 1994, grandson – Jay Shatzer, and four brothers Harlan, Donald, Maurice and Dale Brock.
