Obituary

Douglas A. "Doug" Crossett, age 53, of Washington, Iowa, died Wednesday, September 04, 2013 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a one month illness.

Celebration of life services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 7, 2013, at the United Methodist Church in Washington with Pastor Jim Stiles and Rev. Rick Zickefoose officiating. Visitation will begin 12:00 p.m. Friday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday evening. Interment will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. Memorials have been established for the United Methodist Church or the Brighton United Church. Doug was born July 2, 1960 in Washington, Iowa the son of Phillip and Catherine (Neff) Crossett. He graduated from Washington High School in 1978. Doug was united in marriage to Kimberley K. Allred on July 19, 1980 in Brighton, Iowa.

Doug began working at Hy-Vee Food Store while in high school and has been a full time employee since 1978. He has been the produce manager since 1980. Doug worked part time for the Washington County Ambulance Service from 1978 until 1987.

Doug enjoyed spending his spare time outside, doing projects around the house, in his garden and in his yard. He enjoyed traveling, going on cruises, woodworking and barbequing . He was an avid NASCAR and Chicago Cubs fan.

Doug is survived by his wife, Kim of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Kayla Beatty and husband Sam of Washington, Iowa; sister, Donna Swartzendruber and husband Rick of Wayland, Iowa; aunt, Charlotte Pencil-Magdefrau and husband Richard of Washington, Iowa; aunt, Donna Fisher and husband Dick of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; mother-in-law, Phyllis Scheeler and husband Gary of Brighton, Iowa; brother-in-law, Michael Allred of Wayland, Iowa; and brother-in-law, Chad Allred and wife Mary of Kalona, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, William Allred; and uncles, Don Pencil and Charles Neff.
