Dorothy Leona Bartholomew, age 82, of Washington, Iowa, died Thursday, December 25, 2014, in Washington following an extended illness.
Celebration of life services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2014, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Rick Zickefoose officiating. Calling hours will begin noon Monday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 Monday evening. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Memorials have been established for Washington County Hospice or the Immanuel Lutheran Church. Dorothy was born June 25, 1932, Washington, Iowa the daughter of Jacob and Ocie (Black) Boese. She attended country school in Lockridge, Iowa. On June 8, 1952, Dorothy was united in marriage to Donald Bartholomew in Fairfield, Iowa.
Dorothy was a homemaker and assisted her husband in the family farm operation. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Washington. Dorothy loved quilting and was instrumental in starting the H.O.P.E. Quilting Club (Helping Other People Everywhere) at the Lutheran Church. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, mushrooming and watching her grandchildren's many activities.
She is survived by son, Steven Bartholomew and wife Barbara; son, Gaylen "Barney" Bartholomew; daughter, Vickie Banks and daughter Sheryl Stalder and special friend Jack Lemons, all of Washington, Iowa; eight grandchildren: Amy, Craig, Scott, Kelly, Stacy, Brandon, Marshel and Madison; and eight great grandchildren: Sarah, Jenah, Collin, Tegan, Taylor, Clayton, Lane and Dylan.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1997; four brothers, Howard, Arthur, Alfred and Dale Boese; and three sisters, Mildred Boese, Frances Boese and Edith Nordyke.
