Doris D. Porter, age 89, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at the Halcyon House in Washington.

The family will be present at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home on Saturday, September 19, 2015, from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. to receive friends. Celebration of life services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 19, 2015 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington with Rev. Kitch Shatzer officiating. Mrs. Porter was born November 28, 1925 in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of Lloyd L. and Zera (Courey) Tompkins. She graduated from Leeds High School in Sioux City in 1943. Doris married Bernard M. Culver in 1946 and later divorced. She married R C Porter in Clovis, NM on October 8, 1969. He worked for various pipeline companies and they resided in 13 states. They owned a ranch in Missouri for 18 years before moving to Washington, Iowa in 1985. R C died on September 1, 2008.

Mrs. Porter worked for the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company for 23 years. She also worked for local florists and most recently at Jaz It Up in Washington. Doris enjoyed knitting, puzzling and especially her family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Culver; son, Thomas Culver and wife Peggy of Des Moines, IA; two step-sons: Ernest and Doyle Porter of NM; three grandchildren: Lee Tielbur of North Liberty, IA; Kristine Tielbur of Ankeny, IA; and Seth Culver of Des Moines, IA; and two great-grandsons: Derek and Dominick of Ankeny, IA.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother, Ralph Tompkins; sister, Avonelle Forsmoe; and step-daughter, Chris Marin.
