Obituary

Doris Marie Pool, age 89, of Crawfordsville, Iowa died Friday September 17, 2010 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics from complications following surgery.

Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 22nd at the United Church of Crawfordsville with services conducted by Rev. Nancy Oehler Love and Larry Fletcher. Visitation will begin 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the United Church of Crawfordsville where the family will receive friends from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Interment will take place 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Humeston Cemetery in Humeston, Iowa. In lieu of flowers memorials have been established for the United Church of Crawfordsville. Doris was born July 4, 1921 on a farm northwest of Promise City, Iowa the daughter of Jim Ivan and Lela Mae (McMurray) Montgomery. She attended Nip and Tuck Country School and later attended Corydon High School. She came to know the Lord as her Savior as a teenager at Bethel Church near Corydon, Iowa. On May 3, 1946, Doris was united in marriage to Melvin Pool in Oswego, Kansas.

Doris lived most of her life in Humeston, Iowa and the Wayne County area prior to moving to Crawfordsville in 1990. She was a homemaker and provided baby sitting services to many families in the Humeston area. While in Humeston she worked as a librarian and during World War II she worked at the Ammunitions Plant in Parson, Kansas.

She was a very social person who served as Cub Scout Den Mother for many years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and enjoyed crafts, crossword puzzles and reading.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband Melvin Pool of Crawfordsville, Iowa; son Marvin Pool and wife Linda of Yalaha, Florida; son Randy Pool and wife Janell of Wake Forest, North Carolina; nine grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; one sister Noma Dodson of Evansville, Indiana; one brother John Montgomery and wife Evelyn of Lombard, Illinois; two sisters-in-law Esther Mae Gottenberg of Red Oak, Iowa and Darlene Montgomery of Corydon, Iowa; one aunt Mary Montgomery of Centerville, Iowa; many nieces and nephews as well as other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister Bernice Dodson; two brothers – Wilbur Montgomery and Eugene Montgomery who was killed in action during World War II.
