Dora Evelyn Walker, age 96, of Washington, Iowa died Friday, August 31, 2012 at the All-American Care Center in Washington following a lengthy illness.
Celebration of life services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Darryl Carr officiating. Visitation begins at 12:00 noon Tuesday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening. Dora E. Walker was born January 13, 1916 in Brighton, Iowa the daughter of Robert Louis and Nina Edna (Hole) Dunbar. She graduated from Brighton High School. Dora was united in marriage to Charles Wesley Walker on June 28, 1941 in Memphis, Missouri.
Dora had been a resident of Washington for most of her life. She worked at the American Pearl Button Factory and later retired from the University of Iowa. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Washington. Dora was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, scrapbooking, and genealogy. She was very interested in Native American history, and she was proud to be part Cherokee.
Dora is survived by daughter Judith Ann Bodkins of Washington, Iowa; four grandchildren: Wesley George Bodkins of Colorado; Leslie Joanne Alexander and husband Mike of Colorado; Barbara Jane Bodkins of Delta, Iowa; and Matthew James Bodkins of Washington, Iowa; twelve great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister Grace Virginia "Ginger" Hobday of California; and brother James Dunbar and wife Jean of Brighton, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charles in 1999, and seven brothers and sisters.
