Donna Rae Pile, age 89, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at the University of Iowa Hospital.
Celebration of life services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 11, 2020 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Chaplain Andrew Zuehlke officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon. Interment will be held at Crawfordsville Cemetery. Donna was born July 8, 1931 in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, the daughter of Harold and Ellen (Hookum) Hannum. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1949. Donna was united in marriage to Eugene Lee Pile on January 8, 1950 in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.
Donna owned a truck stop and restaurant with her husband in the Chicago area until returning to Mt. Pleasant. She moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where she worked at Sargent Company for 12 years. Donna later lived in Crawfordsville and Ainsworth before moving to the United Presbyterian Home in Washington. She enjoyed reading, gardening and working on crossword puzzles.
She is survived by three daughters: Cindy Simmering and husband Don of Ainsworth, IA; Deb Pumphrey of Ottumwa, IA; and Melissa Larson of Cedar Rapids, IA; 4 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; sisters: Mary Ellen Walgren of Wapello, IA; and Eloise Frost of Merlin, OR; and brother-in-law, Jerry Bonser of Agency, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1991; sister, Sharon Bonser; son-in-law, Bill Pumphrey; and son-in-law, Mike Larson.
