Obituary

Donald Eugene “Don” Wilson, age 90, of Columbus Junction, Iowa, passed away on Monday, September 7, 2026, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 11, 2026, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Rev. Keith Dewell officiating. Interment will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Friday at the Columbus City Cemetery. Calling hours will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will be present to receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Memorials have been established for the Reformed Presbyterian Church. Don was born on April 20, 1936, near Columbus Junction, Iowa, the son of Raymond Masson and Mable Catherine (Morrison) Wilson. He attended the Shellbark School and later graduated from Ainsworth High School. Don then joined the United States Army Reserves. On November 14, 1959, Don was united in marriage to Julia Ann “Judy” Carson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.

Don was a lifelong farmer. He drove school bus for Ainsworth and Columbus Community Schools and was a groundskeeper at the Columbus Schools. Don also worked at the Wapello Sale Barn and was a rural mail carrier for 32 years.

He was a faithful member of the Reformed Presbyterian Church in Washington, serving as an Elder for more than 50 years. Don loved going on tractor rides and was a member of the Wayland Area Antique Tractor Club. He and Judy were dedicated members and leaders of 4-H and were inducted into the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame. Don was also a member of Farm Bureau and the Shellbark Neighborhood Club.

Don is survived by his daughter, Sharee (Jack) Hoegerl of Rock Island, Illinois; son, Doug (Vickie) Wilson of Columbus Junction, Iowa; son, Craig (Brenda) Wilson of Columbus Junction, Iowa; six grandchildren: Whitney, Molly, Abbey, Ruger, Brooke and Remington; as well as twelve great-grandchildren; and special friend, Peggy Buffington.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Judy, in 2025.
