Donald Milbern Underwood, age 91, of Coralville, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at Halcyon House in Washington.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 22, 2026, at North Liberty First United Methodist Church, with Pastor Deborah Coble officiating. The family will be present to receive friends from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the church prior to the service. Interment will take place at Ollie Cemetery at a later date. Memorials have been established for Halcyon House Memory Care and the North Liberty First United Methodist Church. Online condolences may be sent for Don’s family at www.jonesfh.com.
Don was born on May 31, 1934, in Ainsworth, Iowa, the son of Milbern and Minnie (Koehler) Underwood. He attended Ollie High School and served honorably in the United States Army from 1956 to 1958, where he was a helicopter mechanic stationed at Fort Devens, Massachusetts. On March 4, 1956, Don was united in marriage to Janice Lee Nordyke in Richland, Iowa.
Don farmed for more than 35 years, retiring in 1993. He and Jan were honored with the Master Pork Producer Award from the Iowa Pork Producers Association in 1983. The couple were active members of the Ollie United Methodist Church, and Don also helped with the construction of Prairie View United Methodist Church in Ollie, Iowa. Don and Jan were residents of Florida from 1998 to 2008 and spent the past 25 years together in Coralville, Iowa, where they were members of the North Liberty First United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Jan Underwood, of Coralville, Iowa; daughters, Chris (John) Marshall of Washington, Iowa, and Connie (Bill) Witte of Coralville, Iowa; son, Don (Patti) Underwood of Midland, Texas; six grandchildren: Dana (Curt Lukes) Marshall, Daniel (Rachel) Marshall, Melissa (Shane) Norman, Hillary (Dan) Chappo, Cody (Anna) Underwood, and Austin (Angie) Underwood; along with nine great-grandchildren: Gabrielle Johnson, Ava Johnson, Quinn Marshall, Carson Norman, Avery Norman, Adalyn Underwood, Eleanor Underwood, Andrew Underwood, and Ace Underwood.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Richard (Beverly) Underwood and Carl (Jonita) Underwood.
