Donald James Reed, age 71, of Washington, Iowa, died Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at the Washington County Hospital after failing in health for the past several years.

Donald James Reed was born June 29, 1951, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Francis and Clara (Dobras) Reed. Don graduated from Washington High School in 1969 and later received his Associates Degree in Culinary Arts from Indian Hills Community College. He served honorably in the United States Air Force from 1971 until 1975. Don was united in marriage to Colleen Venzke on June 4, 1977, in Iowa City, Iowa.

He worked for Hy-Vee Food Stores for 44 years until his retirement in 2012. Don worked many years as a Shift Manager and as the Bakery Manager. He enjoyed decorating wedding cakes. Don loved animals and enjoyed caring for and rehabilitating all animals.

He is survived by his wife, Colleen Reed of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Donielle Reed of Washington, Iowa; sister, Barbara Rahe of Tuscola, Illinois; brother, Allen Reed of Washington, Iowa; and brother, Gale Reed of Washington, Iowa; as well as his furry friends, Mayson and Maybelle.

Don was preceded in death by his parents.
