Donald Dean McAvoy, age 73, of Washington, Iowa, died Monday, March 23, 2020, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
Celebration of life services will be held at a later date at the First Baptist Church in Washington. Memorials have been established for the First Baptist Church in Washington. The Jones & Eden Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Due to the Covid 19 restrictions, the family would appreciate cards, phone calls and emails at this time. Don was born January 7, 1947, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Robert and Edith (Nash) McAvoy. He attended school in Washington, Iowa. Don was united in marriage to Sandra Jean Apple on November 10, 1976, in Washington, Iowa.
Don was a life long resident of Washington where he was employed at Fansteel Mfg. for 47 years until his retirement in 2017. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Washington. Don enjoyed going on rides, both in his truck and on his golf cart. He enjoyed fishing and being outdoors. Don was a very kind, caring and giving person.
Don is survived by his fiancé, Lois Lemley of Washington, Iowa; brother, Tom McAvoy and wife Brenda of Grandview, Iowa; twin brother, Ron McAvoy of Iowa City, Iowa; sister-in-law, Erica Richardson; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife Sandy.
